The Bromo Marathon is a journey through the breathtaking landscapes of East Java, Indonesia, that requires careful preparation and adherence to strict guidelines. To ensure the safety and enjoyment of all participants, as well as the preserv
ation of the environment, several important rules and regulations have been set. Here’s a comprehensive overview of what you need to know.
Environmental Protection Rules
As the Bromo Marathon course passes through national parks and designated sensitive wildlife areas, participants must exercise extreme caution to protect these environments. Runners are required to stay on the designated trails at all times. Short cutting, littering, or damaging plants, animals, fungi, and rocks along the race course is strictly prohibited. Such actions can harm the fragile ecosystem and may result in disqualification from the race.
The race organizer emphasizes the importance of managing your physical condition before the race, including proper rest and sleep. This preparation ensures your safety and helps in maintaining the pristine environment of the national parks.
Emergency Assistance & Consideration for Others
The Bromo Marathon is a community event, and participants are encouraged to assist fellow runners or staff members who may be injured or sick. If you encounter someone in need of help, your priority should be to inform race staff immediately.
Racers should also be mindful that the course runs through both public and private properties. It’s essential to share the trail respectfully with others and avoid damaging any property along the route.
Aid Stations & Outside Support
Throughout the marathon, aid stations will be set up every 3 to 5 kilometers, providing food, drinks, and medical assistance. It’s important to note that outside support from family or friends is not allowed, and the food and drinks at the stations are reserved exclusively for registered racers. Non-registered runners, or pacers, are not permitted to run alongside participants.
Race Course Markers & Dropping Out of the Race
The race course will be clearly marked with tapes and signs, and dangerous areas will be patrolled by staff. Racers are required to adhere to all posted signs and instructions from race staff, especially in “no-passing” zones and road intersections.
If you decide to drop out of the race, it’s crucial to inform race staff immediately and surrender your race bib. Participants can return to the finish line via shuttle services available at aid stations.
Gear & Equipment
Participants are required to carry essential gear, including a course map, water, and food, to ensure they are prepared for the marathon’s challenges.
Prohibited Actions & Race Organization Responsibilities
Participants may face disqualification or penalties for actions such as taking shortcuts, littering, receiving outside support, or not following race staff instructions. The race organization is responsible for ensuring safety, marking the course, and managing any necessary race cancellations due to extreme weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
